SolidWorks Premium allows you to take raw point cloud or mesh data directly from a 3D Scanner and use the data to create a SolidWorks model from it. It is an easy to use wizard and an example of all the steps is shown in the video.

  • @tejash21 It was a long time ago, but I remember it was a pain to do - I did use the ScanTo3D feature, and used the same 'wizard' to turn it into a solid, it took many attempts, try and keep it as simple as possible. .IGES files should also be possible to import into Solidworks, but when I tried with a complex shape, it just kept more and more RAM (I tried this on a computer with 24Gb of RAM)...

  • @xedleachx I have point cloud data for many human body structures. Did you ever find a solution?

  • Hi there, I have a relatively complex shape (a bone) and I have made it into a point cloud and imported it as a Surface Body - Is there an easy way to make this into a Solid Body suitable for using FEA to simulate it?
