http://www.caryellis.com Get FREE Guide to Healing the Body Vegetarian weight loss is a big topic these days; of course, obesity and weight loss are hot topics in our culture anyway. Having a lean, fit, healthy body and eliminating weight gain is simply a product of eating well and practicing good fitness. Our bodies will balance out to our optimal weights overtime when we practice healthy routines on a daily basis.
Every body is different. Everyone burns different amounts of carbohydrates depending on the amount of physical activity the get, personal body type, blood type, and genetics. We might also look in our family heritage for traditional or cultural foods; the healthier versions of those foods can be really good for us. For example, if you have a Mediterranean background, you might introduce foods such as tabbouli, hummus, and babaganoush into your diet.
One way to lose weight on a vegetarian diet is to keep grain consumption moderate. Grain is an inexpensive way to give us fuel to burn, but we need to manage how much we eat, when we eat it, and what types of grain we are eating. Different grains such as quinoa, rice crackers and tortillas are good options. Grains such as quinoa have complete protein and are a great addition to soups and crackers. Also, keeping grain to a minimum, and always having grain in combination with some protein (such as tofu or beans), helps the body burn it in a more balanced way.
Choosing grains such as rice, quinoa, barley and oats can help us avoid common wheat allergies that can also play a role in weight gain. Other grains that are generally more allergenic include corn, wheat and soy. Becoming aware of allergic tendencies and avoiding these foods will gradually reduce our reaction to them. These choices can be helpful to vegetarian weight loss, and over time consuming small quantities of grains will decrease our sensitivities.
Healthy fats are also essential for vegetarian weight loss. Avocados are a good source of healthy fat. Another is olive oil, preferably not cooked—try adding a little virgin olive oil to a salad. In addition, coconut can add to our essential fatty acids; coconut oil actually burns in the body like a carb, and it supports healthy thyroid function. Use coconut oil or coconut butter, or even just unsweetened shredded coconut.
Get some activity every day. Getting some physical activity first thing in the morning is a great way to help our bodies burn better all day long. Also, drink plenty of fluids to cleanse toxins from the body. Try drinking quart of liquid in the morning, including water, tea, or warm water with a squirt of lemon. These are all great ways to lose weight, including on a vegetarian diet. Good luck on your path to a lean, fit, healthy body!
