A "revised" video (courtesy of some help from Lenny Welch himself) of one of the great recordings of the 1960's, "Since I Fell For You". The song has an interesting history having been composed in 1945 by the big band leader Buddy Johnson and subsequently recorded by Buddy himself with his sister Ella doing a vocal and also by such stalwarts as Dinah Washington. But not until Lenny sang it did the song receive the attention it deserved all along. Lenny's version peaked at #4 in the nation during one of the most tragic weeks in US history, the very week of the JFK assassination in November of 1963.
Lenny continues to perform today and I appreciate his help with some of the photos used in this video especially the one of his posing with Dinah Washington and B.B. King.

  • I just cried to this song

  • Does anyone remember "Father Sabastian" by Lenny? I think it was released in the summer of '64.

  • I am practicing it for karaoke...great song :D

  • This song is the definition of heartbreak. It is the definitve version, the only one that makes me really feel the lyric.

  • Remember this from the first time around. Wish I could live it again, and when I hear it now I do for a moment.

  • @johncapaldiesquire ....It's odd how a song has been around for a length of time, then, one special singer makes it seem new.....and personal.

  • so beautiful!!! thanks soso much for posting!!!!

  • Has been and always will be, my all time favorite. I even use Lenny's name as my alias. So heartfelt about caring, despite it's pitfalls. It's as if he's he's singing it from the very depth of his soul. So moving.
