The SP 4449 steam locomotive takes Amtrak's Empire Builder route through Columbia County on Aug. 3, 2009. At first scheduled to stop in Portage for servicing, it instead continued to Wisconsin Dells.
The SP 4449 was built as a GS-4 "Northern" locomotive with a 4-8-4 wheel configuration. It pulled Southern Pacific "Daylight" coaches over California's Coast Route until the mid-1950s. It is maintained today by Friends of SP 4449.

I was in the Dells when the Daylight came to town. Got lucky they moved the service stop there

Nice, cool to hear what people have to say. That last-minute stop change cost a whole bunch of railfans (myself included) a chance at a second shot.
