This is me playing Ave Maria on tuba as a solo at the University of Arizona Solo and Ensemble Festival 2010. (Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated!)

  • Also, I remember somone asking once about mouthpiece. I used a Vincent Bach 24 AW back then.

  • Thank You very much for all the nice comments and constructive criticism thus far! The solo itself is NOT complicated. Rhythms are easy and tempo at around 70 bpm. What makes it a challenge is the amount of durability one must sustain so you are able to play it well for its entirety in the high register. The highest note is an E above the staff (bass clef) but you hit it literally only twice. The rest of the piece lies in between the C middle-low staff and the D above staff.

  • Hey great job! That was really nice.

I don't know why the judge told you to play a technical piece. I think this piece is great. What rating did you end up getting?

I'm also playing it for a recital coming up pretty soon.

Check out my video on my channel!

  • Hi, well Thank You very much! btw, I got a rating of Superior...xD

  • Did you hear about the story that Jacob's just use to play everything on the big tuba and change mouthpieces.

I play a CC at the moment and I just performed the first two movements of the Gregson on it.

    How's it going now? :)

  • WOW!! This was one of the best versions of this song that I ever saw! I'm serious! I imagine that playing tuba is very, very hard, so here is another motive for my congratulations! Keep playing, because you really have talent for it!

  • i play alsou tuba and i know how hard it is to play and i think you played very great

  • can you mail me the score?

  • WOW.....just awsome ;)

where can i get notes for this?

  • I want to play tuba like you...

Your tuba must be happy :)

  • Not bad. I think you could benefit a lot (if you haven't done this already) from putting the instrument between your legs rather than on your thigh. This will create a more downward angle with the lead pipe and hopefully a more open tone.

Your Tone is generally good in the middle range, it needs to be a lot more open in the lower register and upper. In the upper it was tight enough to create intonation problems. To correct this try playing upper notes without 'smiling.'

    Ran out of room :(.

  • bien , mais beaucoup de progrèes reste à faire en sonorité , courage !!!

  • I can not go a day without listening to this song specially since it's been played on a tuba, and thank you from posting this video up. Love it!

  • Your use of vibrato was exceptional!
