@cushingbro you have to remember the writer of this and donnie darko mixes religion and science. This movie is a mix of biblical armageddon and the science of quantom entanglement/teleportation. see because of quantom entanglement the idea is that copies of the rock and the other guy were created. Unfortunately two people cannot coexist in the same world, think of it like the movie timecop. the two people touch at the end they destroy eachother. the rock represents the second comming of jesus.
