This is from David Bedford's Album "Instructions for Angels" released in 1977 in collaboration with Mike Oldfield. In certain sections you can hear that Mike is influenced by the work on his next album "Incantations" which was released in 1978.
At 3:36 is a picture which shows David with Mike taken about the time this track was recorded.

  • One incredible composition. I've heard it before on a scratchy bootleg, so it's nice to hear such a clear example of it. This just rings in your head; it's aptly named. I was entranced as a youngster by my Dad's recording of Incantations and David Bedford's Odyssey.

They key change at 2.55 sends an enormous shiver down my spine when I listen to this.

I wish so much that MO would return to this kind of music. As guitar solos go, I'd take a lot of convincing it can be topped. By anyone.

  • this is classical dad rock!

  • @mrbsod - that's no synthesiser, that's a bloody great cathedral organ!

  • I want this at my funeral. Utterly beautiful and trancendental. RIP David.

  • @littlemore Agree completely.

  • This among many others is an amazing peice of David's.

Not only was he an amazing composer, he was just such an amazing person. I could go into great detail, but I won't.

I would know because he was my Grandfather.

Rest in Peice Grandad.. Your music will have people remember you for years to come.

  • Rest in Peace, David Bedford. You influenced my outlook on music from an early age and for that I thank you.

  • and now jammy old god's getting front row seats!

  • Mike olfield's guitar playing is unmistakable.

  • David, thank you for adding so much light to the world. I will miss you forever terribly but your musical influence to the world will remain vast.

  • RIP
