Way back in the last Millenium, Jeff and I load up my '73 Volkswagon Van and head off to the mountains of South Carolina. We groove to Clapton on Hwy 9 west, through old mill town Lockhart, SC, then onto Hwy 11, past Glassy Mt before it had houses on it.
The Old Bus wasn't hitting on all cylinders then (Jeff will fix that on next video -stay tuned!)and we barely make it up the 1/2 mile steep gravel road.
Next morning we use a pully, cable and tow straps to trade places on the hill and haul up the lumber, on a homemade contraption with go-cart wheels - Roll on Buddy! "Nine Pound Hammer", a traditional song on plucked, 3-string dulcimer.
Next time, Jeff rebuilds the original flat-four Porche 1700cc engine...Stay Tuned!
Hey, believe it or not, the Old Bus still rolls...more later!

  • That bus ride to get there- Sweet! Loved the 1991 blurred video effect! LOL You have a good strong Singing voice too! My dad built a laptop just before he crossed over in '94, but he never got it strung up. :-( I hope to find someone to string it for me some day.

  • Howdy and thanks for everything! You'd enjoy your Dad's dulcimer - they're easy to play. Just take it by a music store - banjo strings work well.

  • Hey Erv- Is that you singing & playing the mountain dulcimer? I love it! (Wish I could see your face) Impressive pully system too. Roll on, brother.

  • Thanks, Cousin! Jeff wasn't heavy enough for effective counterweight, so we ended up running cable thru the woods and letting the van pull it up. I still had to guide the cart on foot, though.

  • Aww now thats what I'm talking about!

Thats some of the best music.. can't be beat!

  • Came out kind of mountainy, didn't it? To one who knows...

  • Very cool video and song... I used to have a VW van, green and white, don't remember the year. Had to roll 'er down a hill to get 'er started... lol

  • I miss the last millenium with all of my heart.

  • I love the adventure of it all!

  • Now who could dis be - him same age as me and knowin' my secrets? Yeah, I'll get it back to original International Orange one of these years. As for singing, "Tell'em necessity sent'ya"

  • Good to see the old van is still full of visions. I see it's changed color since '78. I hope to see that cabin in person one day. And you've learned to sing. Wonders.
