'not significant side effects' my god! the team that discovered atorvastatin wanted CoQ10 included in the tablets because of the way the statin removes CoQ10 from the body (low CoQ10 weakens the heart, more likely to have heart attacks....) yet the drug company decided against adding CoQ10 because --- wait for it --- they wouldnt be able to patent it!

i will not prescribe this, nor will i take it or allow any family members to take it - or other statins.

Loved this; watched it 3 times. A statin drug made a friend of mine vomit 9 times. An acquaintance who is an opera singer was on tv some years ago saying how statins caused her tendons to rupture. Another friend said statins gave her anxiety attacks. The brain is mostly cholesterol. Lipitor has "worked" for my brother with no side effects. Now my dad is on it. I'm keeping quiet, because I don't want a nocebo effect. I hope he's one of the lucky one percent, but at 84, he's well over 65.

Sad to say, it's unlikely your doctor has read anything other than what the drug companies produce.

Do doctors actually think or do they just spout drug company information?

I'll have my dad try coconut oil when he gets home from the hospital. Three times my father has declined Lipitor, because they keep giving it to him. The doctors insist he must take Lipitor and blood thinners because he has heart disease, CHF and Peripheral Arterial Disease. He has only one artery open in his left foot and recently had a middle toe amputated on account of gangrene. They eventually want to amputate his leg. He has changed his diet, but I wish he had done so years ago. .

Many thanks for the information. I have heard of fecal transplants being good for C. Diff. I had an aunt and an uncle both die from C. Diff outbreaks while in hospital. I wish they had tried some alternative remedies, but when I suggested some to their son/caregiver, he did not appreciate it. He said the doctors should know what to do.

I remember Edgar Cayce recommending beef juice as a remedy for strengthening of the body without irritating the cells in the intestinal tract.

This pretty much what doctors do to ignorant people.

It's pretty good we research what we take in order to avoid such a thing. Years ago they used to prescribe me a asma-controlling gas that brought me several side-effects that weren't worth going through at all. I quit that and learned to handle my problem. And this is just a silly example: can't imagine how many other people suffer obeying the first doctor who prescribe a tradicional and famous drug to them.

Most doctors probably don't know about them. Coconut oil is supposed to be good anti-bacterial/anti-viral. If hes willing to try coconut oil or MCT oil he'll want to start slow though as it'll cause bathroom issues.

Low dose aspirin is only an alternative to statins that is not as bad in many aspects. The anti-inflammatory diet is more important. The Epi-Paleo blog specifically outlines it.

For healing the gut check out meat/bone broths.

Loving your guts dot com has several great articles on meat and bone broths. The GAPs diet with meat and bone broths and fermented vegetables helps heal the gut.

I've read a few stories about fecal transplants dealing with H.pylori, but those are rare.

I didn't see your post until today. By coincidence, I put my father on the Paleo diet back in August for a few weeks. Then he got pain in his toes, which the nurses thought was gout, so I stopped the strict diet thinking it had caused it. Turned out the pain was from PAD. I think Paleo is a very good diet, but it's hard for my father to give up starchy foods completely. However, he has cut down on refined foods considerably. He has less leg pain now, but sadly he lost a toe from PAD.

Thank you. I didn't see your post until today. My father stopped taking Lipitor shortly after my last post six months ago. He's in the hospital again and they gave him Lipitor, but he refused it, after he started feeling nauseous and unwell. He feels better without the Lipitor. Unfortunately, he can't take aspirin, because two years ago it caused him to lose one third of his blood supply from a slow gastric bleed. The main cause was H. pylori, but daily aspirin aggravated the bleeding.
