Dressage Musical Freestyle Training Level. Friesian horse in Maui, Hawaii. June 2007. Music theme: Pirates of the Carribean. Video quality isn't the best, and music had to be laid back over the track, so timing might not be exactly perfect. The rider is WELL AWARE of their faults during this ride. The horse and rider are now at a different stage in their training together. Please resist the urge to offer critical suggestions on how to ride better. And just another note: the rider was 6 months pregnant in this video. Thanks for watching.

  • there are some really intelligent comments here...

    somewhere...

If you don't want to be rude, don't post it. Thanks.

  • Whew 6 months pregnant eh? Well done. Beautiful Friesian of course (it's a Friesian, what can we expect...).

I'm wondering, because (at least at the start) I'm seeing the rider poke the horse a lot with those spurs, and I just got told off myself for... (oh god English terms!) ... well for not leaving it alone. In my lesson we all tend to give 'em too many signs, so I was wondering if this isn't too many?

  • During training, this horse was sluggish for the first three years. This video was taken when she was becoming a much more forward horse, and later became so forward she needed half halts to keep from speeding away. Because of the past, the rider did have a tendency to remind with the leg, not always with the spur, though. On a hot day in June, the rider didn't want a sluggish horse to break gait in a test. : )

  • very very nice, I would try to keep your hands a little more still

  • In which gait? In order to maintain contact and still "allow" with the hands, they have to move with the motion of the horse's head, especially at the walk. In western, without contact, the hands can stay still as a statue. Thank you for your comments.

  • I thought all tests were suppose to be done in a sitting trot???

  • Sitting trot is not mandatory until first level.

  • @DylantjeMijnPaard lol, respectfully, I had to re read. Never saw a young horse that plump. Rider did fine, no one knows how gentle or severe the spurs. Sometimes the big horses take time to feel the cues. Kind of like a gnat on an elephant. "A" for effort no doubt.

  • @mauifarrier 1:09 - 1:29 its looks a bit harsh....

  • @Nemurin yeah her aids shouldnt have to be that strong, i think if her leg was rolled back so she actually had the inside of it on the horse she wouldnt need to use so much spur (amateur opinion!)

  • I want to see this composition choreographed for Grand Prix. It'd be epic.

  • @mauifarrier My kudos to you for even trying freestyle dressage. I thought it was lovely. Beautiful horse, nice music selections.

  • @Nemurin okay, sorry then xD

  • @robinneke2 I was never rude, as you can also tell from the way I was replied to.

  • @Nemurin I think it's beautiful!!! so, don't be so rude please. and yes, i know the horse is a little fat, but i like friesian horses, maybe you don't like them, but, if you don't like it then keep your reactions for yourself!

@mauifarrier i really like this video!! (sorry, my english isn't very well, that's because i'm from the Netherlands)

  • @mauifarrier Hmmm, I think she means when you are posting your hands are going up and down, but yes as a dressage rider myself you do have to move hands with the horse's head... = )
