The Crookes Gentlemans Cycling Club Descended on Sheffield Stars Cycle Speedway Club for a summer evening of Racing.

After half an hour of getting used to the bikes, which were all provided, we set out racing. 16 brave souls stepped up to take the challenge.

3 heats each decided the starting order for the four finals and no one was giving an inch. Shoulder to shoulder racing ensued and everyone came off the track panting hard through a broad smile.

Thanks go our to Rob and Jamie from the Club for putting on a great night and thanks to everyone that showed up to have a go.

CROOKES GENTLEMANS CYCLING CLUB - 17TH MAY 2010
Posted: 18 May 2010
Sheffield Cycle Speedway Club continued to look at ways of expanding the Cycle Speedway profile by opening the Cookson Park facilities for the use of the Crookes Gentlemans Cycling Club.

Cyclists more used to Road, Track and MTB had a ball on a dusty circuit that would have proved difficult to race for seasoned Cycle Speedway riders. Using the 16 rider individual formula the club had qualifying races and then grand finals. All of the competitors quick on the straights but the cornering technique was proving difficult to master.

Outstanding performance came from Nick Hamilton, who recorded three smart wins and was only beaten by Cookson's number One junior rider Jamie Langton (making up the numbers while assisting coach Rob Mawhood in running the session as part of his BC junior volunteer role). There was some close and exciting racing and a few spills were unavoidable, luckily only Rob Snowden needed the first aid when suffering from a deep cut to his knee in his first outing, Rob would later go on to claim first place in the D Final.

Chris Palmer and Alec Hartley both recorded two wins apiece, Alec also suffering a fall that meant he missed the A Final. Consistent riding from Simon Chopin (one win, three second places) saw him get a place in the A Final. There were also race wins for Dave James, John Alexander (who consistently came from last place to pick up points), Jack Chopin and Henry Norman. A special mention for Stewart Marshford and Kieron Kinninmont who both had to get their 6' 8" frames onto bikes not especially designed for them. Kieron in particular was very quick from the start and on the straights but was giving away ground on the corners. Jodie Vallance, as the only female, was worried about being lapped. She need not have been as she got a good third place and was constantly challenging her male counterparts.

QUALIFYING SCORES.

Jamie Langton 16, Nick Hamilton 15, Chris Palmer 14, Simon Chopin 13, Jack Chopin 12, Henry Norman 12, Alec Hartley 11, Dave James 11, John Alexander 10, Leon Foster 8, Stewart Marshford 8, Adam Wiles 7, Martin Baker 6, Rob Snowden 6, Kieron Kinninmont 5, Jodie Vallance 5.

GRAND FINALS

A -- 1st Jamie Langton 2nd Nick Hamilton 3rd Chris Palmer 4th Simon Chopin.

B - 1st Alec Hartley 2nd Henry Norman 3rd Jack Chopin.

C - 1st John Alexander 2nd Adam Wiles 3rd Stewart Marshford 4th Leon Foster.

D - 1st Rob Snowden 2nd Martin Baker 3rd Kieron Kinninmont 4th Jodie Vallance.

The group have promised to return again later in the year and some are even mulling over the prospect of returning for the first Hallamshire Go Ride League this Sunday, 23rd May
