For the first time in more than a decade, a freight train rolled through Southern Sonoma County late this morning, carrying five carloads of grain to the Petaluma Hunt & Behrens feed store. The delivery came the morning after the Novato City Council narrowly approved the final regulatory hurdle for the Northwest Pacific Railroad on a 3-2 vote last night.
Northwestern Pacific Railroad (NWP) President John Williams says his railroad plans to run up to three trains per week, between Schellville and Windsor, possibly running again as soon as this Friday. North Coast Railroad Authority Executive Director Mitch Stogner confirmed that "the goal is to get a delivery to Windsor's 'Standard Structures' as soon as possible".
