Yes I have to agree. It is mind blowing! Something I would recommend to anyone who gets the opportunity. It's a little terrifying, what with the cliff into the volcano on one side and the precipice down the slope on the other!

I seen this for myself in May 2009. THIS IS THE MOST AWESOME THING YOU WILL EVER SEE!!
Go and see it. Search Mt Yasur and Vanuatu.

Excellent video!

I suggest they move away from the volcano. you know very hot lava coming from the core of the earth can't be good for the skin

great video i reallly am scared of a volcano erupting in ireland but if there was a volcanoe eruption does the toxic smoke start some kind of thunderstorm and it starts to rain like dirt and muc and stuff?
amazing! how did the helicopter get close enough to not get burned by the showers of lava spit forth?

There was no helicopter involved unfortunatly , the footage was taken whilst standing on the rim of the volcano. The Yasur Volcano is in constant eruption and is relatively predictable and reasonably safe to view from the rim.

oh mercy! when u say "unfortunately", do u mean the person who filmed this was harmed in the process? this is a spectacular view but extremely high risk!

No , I meant it would have been good to fly over the lava lake to have a good look at it. You cant see the lake or pool of lava from the rim as it is deeper inside the inner cone. You can hear the activity in the lake if you turn your volume up.
With a good guide the volcano is pretty safe .
A few have been killed by Lava Bombs at Yasur but many have been hurt by steping backwards when the thing explodes , and falling down the mountain.

Wow. This is great footage. Do they charge you money to go up to see the volcano? They do at Stromboli in Italy. It's terribly constrictive.

Yes , you pay a fee of around $25(US)to the local tribal chief. This is normaly paid by the tour guide as part of the tour cost. From memory the tour was about $100 (US) wich included a 2 hr 4wd trip to the volcano, visit to a coffee plantation and hear a few songs from a native choir..a bit of an odd thing to find in the middle of the jungle :-). You also need to get to Vanuatu and then another flight to Tanna Island so it is reasonably expensive, but I would go back tomorrow if I could.
