Chapter 35: Joe

She looked damn fine tonight that I could not deny, but.what if I told her about my mom..I shook that thought out of my head and walked towards her getting ready to set the blanket down.


She stood in front of me waiting for me to set down the blanket; as soon as I did she took her shoes off and sat down patting the spot next to her with a smile.
"Sit" she instructed
I smirked and did as I was told and took a seat next to her looking up at the sky. I breathed deeply and sighed out in frustration; my mom would have loved to see me with a girl like Demi. Even just talking to her, she would be proud. I knew she would love her. What wasn't to like, she was smart, athletic, kind, and she did volunteering..a silent tear crept down my cheek. I felt her arms wrap around me and I looked over at her.
"Talk to me" she said in a whisper.
I stared at her in silence.
"I swear I wont judge you" she leaned in to me and gave me a kiss on my cheek "you can trust me" she reassured me.
I sighed and looked up at the sky "I got into a car accident" I told her, I couldn't believe I was sharing this with her but she made it easier when she rubbed her hand up and down my back trying to comfort me.
"My.....my mom....she was taking me out driving....it was raining out" I paused and stared into the sky "she told me to slow down...but I didn't listen" I kept my tears inside I didn't want to cry in front of her again. "she died instantly I didn't even get a chance to tell her goodbye" I turned to look at Demi who now had tears running down her face.
"Oh Joe: she said to me with sympathy "It isn't your fault" she rubbed my back slower now.
I sighed "that's what everyone tells me, that it isn't my fault. And yet I cant help but feel like I'm the one to blame" I turned to look at her staring deeply into her eyes. "I'm a murderer" I whispered. "I don't deserve to be loved."
She looked back at me with sadness in her eyes then she leaned into me and placed her lips gently on mine. I was shocked at first but I found my arms traveling towards her waist as I wrapped my hands around it. I opened my mouth slowly letting her know that I wouldn't go any further than she would and soon her mouth opened beneath mine. It was like a dance, my tongue around hers, hers around mine. I felt her hands climb up to my neck then travel along my abs. I wasn't sure what came over me but I found myself kissing her passionately intensifying the kiss and running my hands up and down her body. She responded then gripped me tighter to which I began to push her towards the blanket. I felt her body stiffen beneath mine and I quickly came to my senses and got off her.
"I'm so sorry" I said quietly "I just....I wasn't thinking."
She looked scared though I wasn't sure why, she had initiated the kiss but I guess I took it too far. She just looked so good tonight, and I was feeling weak and alone.
She took my hand in hers plastering a weak smile on her face "Its not you" she said looking down. "And I'm the one who kissed you first so I'm sorry. I just didn't know what to say after your story" she looked up at me apologetically.
I sighed and stared into the sky "don't apologize, that was what I needed"
She laughed lightening up the mood "you needed a kiss?"
I started to think about that, was it the kiss I needed or was it her?
