This is my 1962 Allis Chalmers D19 turbo diesel farm tractor. The video shows startup, partial throttle, low idle and shutdown. The D19 model was the first mass produced turbocharged diesel agriculture tractor made in America.

  • why start at such a high throttle, its just harder on the engine.

  • @tractormanAllis The engine was already warmed up when I started it for the video.

  • i though the turbo wasnt invented till 1975???

  • @EXTREME4YEARSTOCOME The first patents for turbochargers were in the early 1900s. The Allis Chalmers D19 was the first mass produced turbo diesel agriculture tractor.

  • Sounds really good and strong!

  • Thanks! It has most of the usual wear and tear. It won't stay in 3rd gear, one of the rear rims need repair around the valve stem, there's a hole in the power steering hose... but the engine and turbo sound great. It smokes a little, but it sat in a barn for 8 years, so the rings could be stuck. How's your tractor restoration coming along?

  • Turbochargers were used in World War II on warplanes. Superchargers were more common, but turbos were also used.

  • nice

  • man you can really hear that turbo

In the last few days I drained the final drives and will put a few gallons of diesel in and drive it up the road a bit before putting new gear lube in. I have to do the tranny the same way. This tractor was not taken care of very well. I put a new seat on and bought a grill on ebay, still need a right side panel, Once I get it machanically sound I will start on the cosmetic stuff. Lots of fun.
