http://SmokingStrobes.com/photobusiness - Today's video might bore you. This photography idea is about a rather normal, unspectacular and well, pretty easy way to start a photography business. It's about a catalogue photography business. I realized that a lot of viewers are willing to earn some money with photography. However, jumping onto the wedding or microstock train is a bit out of reach for many. Usually I do not film those photo shoots, which make me money in the most lazy way. Not that I am ashamed of doing such unsophisticated bread and butter business. I just think that it is not very impressive on video. But anyway, here's how I do it.

Feel free to try it out yourself.
I wish you good light!

  • Great video as usual !

Could someone hear the name of the flash pack Michael suggests ?

  • @jaccky74 Yes, @iolair1974 already mentioned it. I refered to Yongnuo speedlights. I think I am using the YN560 in the video. It's working perfect for me. On the other hand I am not such a big fan of the TTL solutions of Yongnuo. When I tried them out they were not compatible to any of my radio triggers. And I am not sure if they are supported with ETTL II at all (there is a huge difference between ETTL and ETTL II).

  • jetzt wird es aber albern.

  • @aspia11 Would you prefer it more serious?

  • how much would you charge to your client for each photo?

  • @optiosv How about you charge a base fee for the photoshoot, which is high enough so that you are really comfortable with it? That's what I do. The client can select as many images for retouching as he likes. You might charge them the costs that you pay to the retoucher and mark it up by 100%-200%

  • Thank you for another great video, Michael. And i have a quaestion: How you made it invisible men? I mean - how you make inside clothing?

  • This looks cool, but how do you get the inside?

  • haha! you're so funny!

  • Great idea, great execution-as always! Bravo!

  • Hi Michael. Love your videos. Specially this one since I'm about to get a paid photo job for a catalogue. But, here's a question: how do you show the inner back of the sweater? It's post-processing right, but, do you take two photos and merge them? I really could use some help with this. Thanks

  • You always share your good ideas to photographer like myself who are new to the business . Thank you !!

  • really interesting, thanks for the great videos

  • You're a good man. Thank you and good light!

  • Have you tried the Pixel King wireless triggers. I would love to have the Phottix Odin TTL Flash Trigger that you use but funds currently won't allow for it. The pixel kings are half the price.

  • I like the way u think. Its mostly a simple thought broken down into details. Doing funny stuff in the videos is ur style and it seems 2 work out. so good work and thanks for the ideas.

  • Thanks for another great tip video! Are you using the wireless file transfer from Canon? I don't see any cables, but I see your pics being sync on your laptop, is it worth the money? I hate those damn cables...

  • Nice idea.

As for how much to charge, I'd check out how much others on PhotoShelter charge, and consider how much your time and gear maintenance costs, too.
