Movie | Crossing 5 of 10

Crossing is a Korean movie which is going to be aired in late June 2008. The movie is based on a real story about the life of a North Korean defector and his family.

Actor Cha In-pyo starred as a North Korean coal miner who crossed illegally into China to get medicine for his wife. His wife passed away soon after he crossed the border, and he was separated from his 11-year-old son (played by Shin Myung-chul) who was trying to trace him from North Korea.

The story shares the hardship of North Korean refugees in the late 1990s, with famine striking the country and killed an estimated 1 million people.

The North Koreans couldnt cross into South Korea directly because of landmines and heavy military presence at the border these defectors had to cross into China and made a de-tour to South Korea instead.

The Chinese government, an ally of the North Korean regime, does not recognize the defectors as refugees and would send them back to North Korea to face stiff action.

Crossing will represent South Korea as a candidate for the foreign film category at the 81st Academy Awards.

  • This movie is so heartbreaking.

So much more so because it is still happening today.

I hate the Goverment that causes this to be done to it's people.

Communists don't care for any kind of democratic choice only for their ideological system, if you are a rebel against any part of that then except the consequences.

Why can't these countries give their citizens the right to choose the right to freedom. This is so sad.

  • kim jung ill gave this a thumb down...whatta bastard!!!

  • @MrRug3ree I dont think any of the communist countries really understood communism...and I dont think even the very guy that wrote it(karl marx) didnt really understood it either thats why it looked on papers but not when u put it to practice

  • @NearDeathExperienc Well Put

  • Man, this guy just wants to get medicine for his wife. There's nothing political about that.

Just let this man get his medicine.

  • @MrJonslife politics isn't that simple... I think Chinese communist party still needs to keep good relationships with NK since SK is still mostly occupied by US military. and every country has its rules just like the mexican illegal immigrants to the US :( only hope there will be more nongovernmental organizations can help those NK refugees

  • China, I am begging you, please help the north koreans.

  • @samanbandana No, Kim Jong Ill gave this a thumbs up. That bastard doesn't care if thousands are dying from misery. In fact, that fat pig is enjoying it. Kim Jong Ill deserves a bullet in his head.
