Day 3 - Winterton to Pietermaritzburg
We had good weather today, and headed off towards Escourt and Griffith's Hill. I really felt the effect of gravity up the hill, but my most vivid memory was Robbie Hunter flying past on the steepest section with his deep set rims whooshing...in his big chain-ring. There was drama with the challenge race with Ian winning by a bigger margin than the year before, but seemed to have pushed himself harder. After Ian recovered, we headed off for lunch and a lie down at Nottingham Road. The last stretch to Pietermaritzburg went smoothly and the larger members of the group took full advantage of the down-hills. That evening we had a great dinner and Robbie gave a talk on his experiences and took questions. Somebody even asked THAT question, but he answered with the aplomb of a seasoned politician
