@hkamal You all did great...I was up dancing in my kitchen before I knew it. Can't find 'gentleman' on Itunes but I got some other good songs from Essam! Thanks from California :)
if you really want to be politically correct, if egyptians are arabs, wouldn't they be called arabs? moreso, let's be blunt and not forget the fact that egypt IS in africa although it is an arabic country.
Actually this dance predates the Arab invasion of Egypt. It has more in common with other dances found in East and CEntral Africa than it does with the dances of Arabia. As for the stick dancing, its based on a martial art and there are heiroglyphics of men doing the same stick fight they do today. You can also find similar fighting all the way down in Ethiopia. Honestly no one knows what Ancient music and dance was like. They did have drums and percussion instruments.
Muslims who "conquered" Egypt abstained from listening to music let alone dancing ! It was centuries later when undisciplined so-called Muslims allowed this !!
Nice, but let me add that ancient Egyptian dance was entirely different--it was subtle, devoid of wild drumming, and very mystical. The above is the style introduced by Muslims when they conquered Egypt.
