When i was first learning Guitar I wanted to play this song but most tutorials left me wondering why it didn't sound very good so i'm guessing this should clear some stuff up a little.

This is not how Jack plays it, but will do. He uses a capo on the first fret only to cover the open e string and the rest are variations on bar chords. Take a look at any video of him playing it live.
