Machine with Housefly - Arthur Ganson

All movement is inherently interesting to me. Here, playing with the gesture of the housefly as it buzzes around a light and proposing a possible mechanical system to create such movement.

I think that seeing videos of your work has got to be a very different experience than seeing your work in person. With the video presentation you are able to control how I see your machine, and in each video you slowly reveal the "punch line" of your creation.

i think of this machine as a joke. a very well performed and practiced joke. the eyes start with the body all ridged and wittless. but as you go up you think you might understand the punch line to come and begin to giggle to yourself. but that last line left unexpected as you see the fly the true humor comes forth which you did not foretell.

That is a smile on a stick. If i saw it, in person I'd want swat it, but maybe not since it does not buzz. the annoying buzz. Hey you have to add the buzz. Multiple tuned buzzers actuated by the cams?

It's a really creative piece, smile maker. Poor little fly!
