Just woke up and read your post - I think you need to re-read my 1st comment - it is far from a slam to/on "the small island" (!) and the "46" y.o. thing is, that I had heard this song on the album (from the public library) surely, but did not know this was about an actual person,.... so it was heard and that was that.

I saw him perform this in the 0h, 1976....Elton's voice back then , was, well GOD-like. Sang it in the same key as it is on the "Don't Shoot Me " C.D. He beat the crap out of the piano during this song, I was sitting fairly close to the stage and just stared in amazement at his musical ability.... awesome.

what about the small island? its not a bad thing to be british... :-D i'm 14 at the moment and i really want to know what i think about this song at 46.

What a fantastic song, makes me so sad. How could so much musical talent come from such a small island? There's another video of this song with Marc photos, IT really makes me EVEN sadder. Elton was alway a huge favorite of mine and I'm going through his work In the U.S. only "radio" hits were played. I don't even remember this song, forget T. Rex except for a few singles. "Back then" I was 14, and now, at 46 and knowing the back ground story to the song, it brings tears to my eyes.
