In May 1978, we hear a westbound VIA train starts up from Kingston, Ontario's station, heading for Toronto. All is well until something unusual happens. The train has to stop suddenly. A passenger who was supposed to detrain is still aboard. As the train stops, the vestibule door opens and the passenger disembarks, and the train once again starts its journey westbound.

Please note that while the photos show 6771 and an F9B, the third unit was another F9B, not the RS18 shown in the still photos. (The train recorded was un-photographed). Regardless, enjoy the classic sounds of CN/VIA motive power during the early years of VIA.

  • Yes, even though VIA-CN started using the CN logo as early as mid-1976.
