Olbermann is a tedious, self-impressed demagogue to begin with. For many people (as it would have been for me were I a California resident), the end result of Prop 8 would not be to take away a gay person's ability to marry (the government has no business in marraige, period)...but to tell four black-robed dilettantes that they better go back and study the Constitution before they make complete idiots out of themselves.

The state cannot force the churches to change their beliefs. An argument for Prop 8 stated that churches would be forced to allow homosexuals to marry, this is not the case. Religous leaders can still deny to marry two people.

For example, Catholics refuse to allow two people to marry if one or both of them are divorced. Churches may also deny two people from two different faiths to marry in their church.
