Michael Giacchino is one of the most creative, successful and hardest working composers today. He's famously a member of J.J. Abrams go-to team, including television's Lost and the 2009 Star Trek, and recently won the 2010 Academy Award for Best Original Score for the Disney Pixar film Up.

Animated films, sci-fi blockbusters and quasi-mystical purgatorial paradises aren't the run of the gamut for Giacchino - he's also composed soundtracks for video game mega-franchises Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. His upcoming projects include the update of the Star Tours attraction at Disneyland and the feature films Super 8 and Mission Impossible IV.

This clip is from Myouterspace's first live webcast event, where Michael Giacchino discussed the magic of movie music and more with host William Shatner.

  • Bill! Shake the man's hand!

  • Shatner has this arrogant attitude that anything or anyone involved with science fiction should bow to him, beg for his one-hit-wonder seal of approval. Open your eyes, Star Trek is over. Michael Giacchino has done more for films that you could ever hope. So go back to your cheap TV sets, put on your dime shop costumes and beam yourself off camera, please.

  • id give an arm to shake Michael Giacchino's hand.....this lucky bastard just missed his chance.

  • @enrir8953 I disagree. The closest elements (by ear) appear to be some of the chord progressions, otherwise they're very different pieces. The styles are very different and the melodies aren't even remotely similar. If you want a good example of musical plagiarism, study up on the original metal gear solid theme.

  • @Dangeroso I Know!!! lol

  • Awesome! I love that guy - incredible composer and great guy.

  • The Shat is The Man! A great interview and very informative.

  • Great interview! I really hope he'll get onboard the Myst movie someday...
