I love it whenever Bruce Spence says fuck. It sounds odd coming from him.
This was a satisfying short. A good story about friendship indeed. I loved the underwater moment. It felt as though Joe wished he could escape as easily as Herman could.

wow! thanks so much for posting this on You tube so all can enjoy.
i surfed here by being a fan of Bruce Spence's and looking for anything else he'd done.
a very impressive short film. much feeling, vision and commentary in under 7 minutes.
and bruce spence? amazing in yet a whole other capacity. i feel like such an unlikely fan for him! a 5' 1" musician dyke.... go figure..... but i absoutely adore him. don't know what it is...don't care. just give me more!

I am going to film a story june 2009 in the out back of Aus. I would hate to stuff it up.
I would love to hear from some one for some
advice. me and my 3 children under the age of 10 will be living there for over two months.
thank you.

I think this film won due to a great story - something most short films lack!

I agree

Sweet, and of course sad.
Great comment on friendship in the face of being in an abysmal state. Even if it's momentary escapism.
Marvelous little feature that in under 7 minutes does more than many movies do in 2 hours.

wow, that was really good. I love aussie theatre-films
Good film, but going against the spirit of Tropfest. Luke had resources far beyond most Tropfest film makers and of course turned in a better film which others couldn't compete with. Tropfest needs to have CATEGORIES, to cater for both professionals such as Luke AND the "small fish" who are trying to get a break. Unfortunately, Polson has forgotten his humble beginnings. Maybe he needs to watch "Surry Hills 902 Spring Roll" again...

At the time of making this film I was a "small fish" trying to make it in the industry. It was made whilst I was a student for very little money and few resources. Many of the films at this year's Tropfest would have been in the same boat. I would argue that story always beats production values particularly at Tropfest. But hey that's the beauty of Tropfest - always sparking a passionate discusion about films.
