In 1938, a malay serdang dance teacher choreographer, Guru Sauti, had created and performed a new staged-dance choreography, which was called serampang XII, literally "twelve dance movements". Since the indonesian Independence day (in 1945), serampang XII had become more popular widespread all parts of Indonesia. It is then being acclaimed as one of Indonesian national dance.
