people have seen mine warming and complained of low output. then they fall quiet once it lights.

Just don't leave it on in an unvenilated room or tent. DO NOT sleep with Tilley lit.
It'll use up all the oxyen & cause a buildup of letal carbon monoxide (CO) gas.
Tilley discontinued manufacture of their heaters which worked on same principle in the 1950s after several deaths due to CO poisoning.
They are brilliant though but. I have several of my own.
