... that weren't made by LucasArts!

This is a video I made after reading and enjoying an article in Retro Gamer magazine issue 84 - the article detailed the best 20 adventure games that weren't made by LucasArts and I liked the cut of its gib! So, I decided so spend a bit of time (read: a lot of time) making this video so that people can enjoy the article in a more visual manner.

Known problems with the video include:
My rubbish narration
No footage for Game 16 and barely any screenshots available
Generally quite rough around the edges

But hopefully it'll still be enjoyable to a few of you and fingers crossed it will highlight some games to you that perhaps you've never played, or maybe you've played before but wouldn't mind another crack at it. All in all, I just want this to spark a bit of debate and a bit of nostalgia.

If people like this, I'll endeavour to make more in the future.

  • What was that incredible music used during the recap?

  • @GoldenEyeRa I believe that was taken from Dune Variation by Stephane Picq and Philip Ulrich (Exxos) from Dune Spice Opera, the OST for the PC game Dune - another great adventure game :)

  • Has anybody here played LBA 2?? That game with twinsen, that game marked my childhood!!!

  • @EdwardTheGreat54321 I played the first Little Big Adventure, never tried the sequel - it was an awesome game though :)

  • I once player a game where you (somewhere in a level) were in a hotel and you couldn't leave it until you throw some item out of the window. If you went out of the hotel with that item in your pocket you were taken by the guards of that hotel and thrown in the waters. Which game is this? I searched everywhere for it but I CANT find it. Anybody?

  • @VikingFatty It's Broken Sword - I remember this part of the game really frustrating me as I was used to the LucasArts games where you basically couldn't die. Then I got to this point, got thrown into a river and realised that I hadn't saved it once! lol - Back to the start for me then, I learned my lesson the hard way :P

  • What about Black Dahlia?

  • @gamesessions The talkie versions of Beneath A Steel Sky and Flight of The Amazon Queen have been made available for free by the developers,

    See scummvm.org for download links.

  • Real number one - Quest for Glory!

  • I was very surprised by the number 1! Especially that I was thinking: "Dammit they will not have THIs game in the list and yet it is such a good game"... However, I thought this game (yeah I avoid to spoil the top 20...) would not be number 1 but a little below... Oh well, very great video with a lot of very good game. I would have love that list included Woodruff And The Schnibble of Azimuth too.

  • Runaway 1? it's still an oldie and I love pendulo, always great quality.

  • good list, too bad you didnt include Under a Killing Moon / The Pandora Directive in it.

  • I completely agree with 2 and 1...
