Twenty-one-year-old Angelito Araneta knows how to put on an extravagant show.

A student of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Araneta has put himself on the Philippine map with his literally sinful and decadent creations, which, according to the young entrepreneur, are made especially for winners and champions. And no, it didnt take the Hotel and Restaurant Management major half of his life to discover the perfect ingredients he needed to succeed—it just took him guts, and well, a few hundred pesos to get there.

Wanting to get excellent marks in his cocktail mixing and bar management class, Araneta decided to make cocktails and cakes made of edible 24-karat gold and silver sheets and .2-karat African diamonds from Germany. But as soon as he found out he had to order and import them in bulk, Araneta thought of it as an opportunity to invest on a business. Of late, aside from finishing his studies, Araneta is busy promoting his gold-coated and diamond-flecked chocolate cakes to the public.

Not meant for daily consumption, Aranetas costly pastries are that expensive (well, besides the obvious) because of the foreign varieties of cocoa he uses to make each one of them. Present in Aranetas cake is a fusion of chocolates from Russia, Switzerland, Japan, United States, Poland, and India, as well as local cocoas from Batangas and Davao.

Meanwhile, his Philippinen cocktail is also as opulent as his cakes. Aside from the imported chocolates he uses to churn out ice cream that tops the cocktail, Araneta also uses a special mix of lambanog (often dubbed as coconut vodka or wine), basi (fermented alcoholic beverage from Ilocos) , and kahal (fermented beverage made from young coconut) as the main stars of the drink. It is a reflection of the sweet-sour-bitter taste of Filipino life, he quips.

Its not new in the world, but at least in our country, its new, Araneta explains of his generous confections.

However, while some may be apprehensive to eat Aranetas royal offerings, as in being bothered by tasting pure gold leaves, research shows gold has no toxicity levels and leaves the body unaltered.
At the end of the day, Araneta says: We all deserve a piece of cake!

Between the AIG debacle and Natasha Richardsons shocking death, its hard to find something to smile about this week. And guys? Im afraid I am the bearer of even more bad news.

Just when you thought getting on bended knee couldnt be any more nerve-wracking (and, lets face it, costly in this day and age), Manilla businessman, Angelito Araneta Jr. came up with yet another way to spend your hard earned dollars with his latest creation - a diamond and gold engagement cake.

Apparently a diamond ring and your undying love and affection is no longer enough, gentlemen.

The 21-year-old businessman instructed his catering company to come up with a bejeweled culinary creation that is covered in 24-karat gold leaf and 15 African diamonds. The price for this essential part of the mating ritual? A mere $2600.
