On Memorial Day, May 31, 1993, Tim Irvin, a Vietnam War veteran, and Jim Salestrom performed "After the War" at the annual ceremony for that holiday at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (TheWall) as part of that day's ceremonies. Attending the event were President Bill Clinton, Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Colin Powell and Gen. Barry McCaffrey, one of the most decorated men in uniform at that time. "After the War" was written by Irwin and John Emms.

  • Wow! I just saw this for the first time! How cool.

I wonder who took the video from behind? I don't remeber anybody up there, with us, except the man who played taps on the bugle. Still the most wonderful musical experience of my career.

    Timothy P. Irvin

by the way writters are Jon Ims and Timothy P. Irvin (just in case anybody cares!)

  • Timothy P., hope you get to read this. I haven't been hanging with you guys for 15-20 years. Thanks for all the gigs you did for me all those years ago, in all those venues. I know how proud, honoured and moved you were when you sang this at the wall, and what Colin P. remarked after. Best, Jack

Have a blessed and meaningful Memorial Day.

p.s. Heard through the grapevine you have joined Flash Cadillac. Congrats.

  • This may very well be the most moving song I've heard in a long time- God bless you TIm, and Jim, for putting this performance up. i know I was thrilled to hear that you'd been able to do this performance at the wall (I had heard the song not too long before, and would make a 45 min trip in about 20min time later that summer to hear you play at a KYGO event at a car dealership..) great song, may God bless you and all our soldiers...
