Phish performing Chalk Dust Torture at International Beer Gardens at the Humboldt Brewery in Arcata, CA. Small Fish opened the show.
In 1991 I was attending Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA. As a class project I went down to film the opening band, Small Fish. I let the camera roll for Phish, but the manager told me to turn it off after the middle of the 2nd song, Foam. I was bummed but glad he let me keep this bit of history so we can all enjoy it today! THANKS JP and THANKS PHISH!
Another memory is that Chris Kuroda , lighting designer was raving about how lucky he was that the record company let them rent this huge lighting rig. The rig consisted of (I think) One long truss in back, two shorties on the sides. He was unwilling to do lights for the opener because he didn't want to burn out any bulbs, as they were expensive. Guess he doesn't have to worry about THAT anymore!! I believe his style of lighting is unique and you can see that he still does many of the same things to this day just with more lights!

I remember being blown away with the first song at this show, having never heard Phish before. My band Small Fish opened for them at this show! I was a fan after that.

@scottb57 I have the first part of Foam. Phish's manager told me to turn it off. I certainly was not going to have them be mad at me, so I did as I was told, grabbed a spot in front and rocked out for the rest of the night!!
