  • Lightoller used the old rule "womens and children first" , which was the reason that on his side many boats left with space left!!!

Many women wit children didn`t want to leave the ship without their hole family.

The first Officer, William Murdoch, did not care about the sea rigt,

He send women, men, children into the boats and he saved 70 percent of the survivors!!!

He is more a Hero to me.

  • I read a biography of Charles Lightoller' life, "Titanic Voyager" He is such an amzaing man!!! Love him, he was on more than one wreck in his sea career. Amazing ,they don't make men like these anymore!

  • Charles Lightoller is my favourite officer! Then there are Murdoch and Lowe.

  • @starball23 the song is called Freedom and its a soundtrack from the movie Braveheart

  • lightoller was my favorite second is mr lowe

  • what song?

  • I saw the part in James Cameron's "Titanic" where Lightoller was threatening to shoot the men "like dogs" and he did it in such a . . . ridiculous way. The first thing I thought was, "Damn, this boy's gonna grow up to be a Nazi." But then I did some research on the boy . . .

  • @ClaptonDennis You are right, Murdoch did get over 70% of the people saved. However the reason that Lightoller lowered boats not full was so that people trapped on the decks below could have the opportunity of getting out as they had no way of getting up to the main deck.

  • @Chelinoization

I just did his duty. He saved many lifes always with the thought he might not survive the night. Nevertheless he did his job. I think he was a hero. I do not know what you or I would have done in his situation.

Do not judge about a man in a situation we cannot imagine.

  • I am interested in understanding why Chelinoization has referred so eloquently to Lightholler as "an arsehole". I love a good debate and respect other's views. What justification have you for such a comment? What experience have you at sea? What facts support your statement? If you use the bizzare portrayal by a rich, socialist, American film director (Cameron) to justify such a statement, then you are sorely misinformed. I am sure many eduacted, knowledgable commentators may suggest otherwise.
