A look at a common problem with 'advanced' riders, positioning for bends. Do I follow the line of the curve, or do I position for the best way through, having scanned for my view.

  • The one thing i can see is that both the rider in front and the camera bike do not move over for oncomming traffic. Having recently passed my IAM test, it was something i was picked up on. How many times have you seen a car/truck/bus cross the white line on a corner?

  • Thanks for that comment, taken on board. I can see where you are coming from,

    Regards

    Nigel

  • Got to say i really enjoy the videos. trying to get some up myself but can't seem to get my archos 605 recording for longer than 45 min, battery is knackered.

  • I use a Sony camcorder, mini dv tapes 90 minutes long as all the footage is transferred onto DVD for the clients. Jus done Normandy, 6 DVD's. I must be mad.....!!!

  • @yllekkram I guess with that sort of situation, you have to judge each one as it comes. I would probably sacrifice my view and position for safety more so if I saw a larger vehicle coming towards. But of course, it doesn't mean that a car won't cross the lines, so that's why I say you'd probably have to judge each one on it's own.

  • I also noticed the rider would ride closer to the centerline than I would in both cases. I tend to stay in the outside tire track until visibility opens up and then choose based on what's ahead. On a left curve (for you) I would move left a little if I see oncoming traffic.

  • I did a safe rider course on Sat with Norfolk police and I have to say it was brilliant, I now want to learn more about it and the whole road craft riding thing, it is amazing how much faster you acctually travel when safely planning and taking bends smoothly and with no panic.

I would advise any rider with any amount of experience to try this if you haven't already, never know you may just learn somthing I definately did.

  • Did you pass mate?

  • Also remember kids; allow for junctions/ driveways/other hazards.

    Sorry Nige.

    Back to you.

  • It's fantastic when you learn this roadcraft. The ride is so much smoother (and faster!) when you get it. Cheers Nigel.
