William Walton, Concerto for Viola and Orchestra (1929) Movement 1: Andante comodo Daniel Batchelder: Viola Rudolf Haken: Piano Daniel Batchelder's junior recital, May 2, 2009 Unitarian Universalist Church Videographer: Eric Lakanen
try doing a faster tempo. it is supposed to be a flowing, romantic movement and the tempo you used was a little stagnant, especially at the beginning. however, you had great expression, so good job =)
Beautiful concerto, competent palyer. He starts so well, not always bang-on in tune but with much heart and soul, making the viola sing nicely. Seems to me he began to tire so much by the third movement that a lot of his potential became masked. Overall though a competent redition, should have a bright future.
hmmm, good performance, just sustain more through the phrases, let it flow more, like in the beginning let it start out more softly and intimate and build it up as the pitch goes higher and then just do that over and over again because it builds then drops then builds again until you hit the sixths passages, and watch intonation you often go sharp. otherwise it was a good performance
Daniel, is this your college junior recital? May I ask where you go or will go to college?
