  • @laos159 completely unrelated games. why compare?

  • What I find amusing is that if anyone accomplishes anything amazing in video gaming, you have all these people that say "it's just a game". Video gaming is a breeding ground for amazing accomplishments if the game allows for it. Not every genre can be called "challenging". Games like beatmania are quite rare in the video gaming industry. Now-a-days it's too easy to cheat your way to victory. Music games are that rare exception to this phenomena.

  • @abbytion That's bullshit. I think if anything it has to do with the majority of Americans music sensibilities aren't found in beatmania. Various Techno and J-Pop, the majority of beatmania, is not what most US peeps are exposed to/like. That's why guitar hero did good; because it had something familiar (rock) with -well known- artists. Thats also why GH failed, they ran out of songs everyone liked. If that was all beatmania had, it would do much better. But then it would suck, so its all good.

  • @RyuHirakashi1 most americans want to be good at a game after 1-2 days of playing it

  • I don't think that being an anime fan would automatically qualify you for playing these games. Komami's bemani series outside of DDR as always been for enthusiasts. As is most certainly IIDX and pop'n music. Most americans don't have the mindset needed to enjoy these games.

  • @NicolXIX

They can't sue them for being ripoffs. Then that would be terrible because the only FPS we will have in the world is Maze War and the only rhythm game we would have is Dance Aerobics. DDR wouldn't be in existence.

The reason Konami doesn't produce rhythm games in the US (besides DDR) was because the rhythm games they make aren't that popular, not because of MTV. Aside from rhythm game freaks and anime fans, the game wont sell. Mass producing them would cost more than they'd make.

  • @atreyu25 Yeah, beatmania US was weak, but at least it came with a decent controller at a very cheap price, I use one of those controllers myself (for the japanese game versions).

You might be right about the technical aspects behind why they can't sue them, but it still seems like it could be proven that activisions games were rip-offs in court.

I also recall something about MTV owning the rights to all music/rhythm games in the US which caused a problem for Konami.

  • @NicolXIX

for the first part, they can't. Guitar hero is 5 buttons, guitar freaks is 3. Drummania is different than guitar hero drums. Dj hero is nothing like beatmania, asside from the turntable. so they cant.

and for the second part, konami has tried but they messed up trying. Remember beatmania (in the usa)?

  • Why can't Konami sue Activision for ripping off all their games and just win a huge lawsuit and then spend the money on promoting these REAL music games in the western world?
