This open was on the day of the horrible train crash in Los Angeles.

I apologize if I came across as brash and, especially given that you have hard facts, appreciate your opinion.
As a fellow American, though, who admittedly does not live in the Miami area nor has ever been affected by a Hurricane, I feel that I'm entitled to give a third-party critique about the state of news reporting in the United States today, which I feel, in many cases, is deplorably sensational and lacking in the will to focus on hard issues which affect the local community directly.

The basic core in every journalists' beating heart is that we are about telling stories that have real impact and impact real people. Yvette Miley, VP of News at WTVJ said it very clearly. The hurricane impacted the community of South Florida and this story is RELEVANT to the community because actually people might have family members or friends in the affected area. Spin your bullshit down the toilet.

Of course, as I watch the rest of the video, I note that the station reports on a story about a hurricane that is nowhere close to Miami. I don't care if the hurricane previously went through Miami; it is not an even which is affecting the city at the time of the news report. A local news report should stick to LOCAL news that is RELEVANT to the community.

Am I kidding myself? This news report is from 2008 and a television station is actually reporting on a real story?
