We welcome the silage chopping crew from Beaver Dam, WI to central Illinois again this year! I bothered them for a few hours today, so I thought I would throw together a quick video with some of the video I shot of their operation. They are great guys, and we appreciate them telling us a little bit about what they do.

The corn they harvested today was Pioneer 1236XR and also some Pioneer 33F88. We started planting this area on April 12, 2010. The moisture was testing somewhere around 65% and yielding approximately 26 tons/acre. There are definite signs of plant stress from the extremely hot and dry weather we have been experiencing since the last week of June. While we are light years ahead of where we were in 2009, it will be interesting to see the yield difference in some of the later planted corn.

Thanks a lot to Jon Mickey and Bruce Walker for showing me around the harvesting operation.

We hope everyone has a safe fall harvest!
