Thanks Cathy, I appreciate your rude condescension and patronization. However that is exactly not what you stated in your original comment. If you had truly realized it was a joke (And a form of situational irony) you wouldn't have recounted the story as that just sucks humour from it.

Observing the irony is only humorous if it wasn't intended - otherwise it simply makes you look thick for not getting the joke.
