Harbor Springs Day Trip

Our day trip adventure takes you to Harbor Springs, nestled in a sheltered bay on the north shore of Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan.

To discover the community from the water you'll need a kayak. The Outfitter in Harbor Springs offers various rentals and lessons, including kayaks and standup paddleboards, which are like giant surfboards powered by paddling. There are two-hour minimum rentals at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m., and tours are available. For more information, call (231) 526-2621.

The view from land is just as spectacular as we tee off at Harbor's meticulously maintained golf courses. We tried our hand at Little Traverse Bay Golf Club but a complete list of courses and a map are available at thegraphicweekly.com.

Walking through downtown Harbor Springs offers an insight to the arts community it houses, as well as favorite pastimes.

The marina, located next to downtown, offers views of boats from not only the area but around the country. Walking the pier with an ice cream cone is a cool way to spend a summer day.

Lunch in Harbor Springs is offered at many restaurants, but the sandwiches from Gurneys on Main Street are a favorite of locals and visitors alike.
Owner Bill Gurney said all the sandwiches are create-your-own and made on house-baked bread. If you cant make up your mind about what kind of meat to order, the Train Wreck combines it all.
There are no tables or seating inside, but a favorite place to eat a Gurneys sandwich is by the waterfront, located about a block away.
