Vietnam: Usual and "Unusual" Food

Pho is the most common food in Vietnam. Basically, a noodle soup eaten all day, and I developed a real liking for it.

You would have thought that I've been there...and seen it...food-wise...but the live bees, larvae, half a pig's head with brains intact and snake meat were new ones. I managed to miss the raw dog meat in one market (thankfully) but the most disturbing sight was the monkey wine. A big eewww....

although it IS known to occur, the people generally don't drink the wine with preserved animals in them, most people just preserve them for display purposes (especially snakes and other small reptiles).

There's plenty of Pho restaurants in Chicago (around the intersection of Broadway and St. Argyle) that I think are more "flavorable" than in Vietnam.
