The Spleen is part of the Lymphatic System. It produces lymphocytes that play an important role in the Immune response of the body. The Spleen also acts to break down non-functional red blood cells. The Spleen is about the size of your fist, it is the shape of a coffee bean, and the Spleen is greyish-red in color. The Spleen is located intra-peritoneal, its' inferior border is at the level of the 11th rib, and with deep inspiration, the Spleen can be palpated at the base of the ribs.
