A mother was brought to tears as her 16-year-old was sentenced to six months behind bars in a juvenile correction facility.

But the State said Tuesday this teen has been given too many chances and is a threat to our community.

The convicted teen committed give felony burglaries in three years - his first when he was just 13.

The prosecution in Lucas County Juvenile Court feared the teen would get off the hook again because the juvenile court system is set up to try to rehabilitate young people who commit crimes before they are ever sent away to be locked up.

The 16-year-old was the exception to the rule in juvenile court, despite his mother's plea to give him probation.
