I take it Verex's mutation gave him laser vision, and I also assume that this Zomahk is from an alternative dimension.

No, Verex's eyes glow like that when he is angry or wishes to intimidate someone. It's one of the results of his mutation.
As for Zomahk... you'll have to wait and see. XD
