Wouldn't alternative 3 (daytime service between KC and Fort Worth) have a reasonably short connections to at least one of the Missouri River Runner trains on the same day within an hour or two?

@robhkycc Using the Amtrak schedules on their website, the River Runner leaves KC at 7:30A and 4:00P, but Alt 3 gets you to KC by 7:22P, after both of those have left KC. The Southwest Chief leaves KC at 7:30A eastbound and 10:55P westbound (but then you retrace your path from KC to Newton).

  • Nice!

They could use the Amtrak buses to eliminate some of the long lay overs for the day time routes. Just a thought.

Amtrak's South West Chief goes through Kansas in the dead of night as it is right now. Even though some of these stops are in the dead of night who knows they may be popular. Take for example Amtrak's California Zephyr train. The California Zephyr stops in Salt Lake City in the dead of night but its a popular stop and always tons of people getting on and off the train there.

  • Why are California Amtrak trains and electric powered Northeat Corridor trains featured in this clip for Kansas,Texas and Oklahoma? Options # 3 and # 4 are not good,
