Rangers: McCloy, Dawson, McClelland, McPherson, Paterson, Bett, Cooper (Davies), McKinnon, Clark, Russell, McDonald (Dalziel)
Aberdeen field the same 11 as beat Real Madrid. Rangers enjoyed the better moments in a lacklustre 90 minutes. Four minutes from the end of extra-time Paterson deflected McGhee's cross into the air, and Eric Black nodded into an open goal. Fergie criticised his team, then apologised.

But you always back your manager when he's hated by others. I'm an Ipswich fan and if Roy Keane was going through the run he's having with us at any other club, I'd be laughing my ass off. Instead, I feel rather protective of him as the media go asking him if he'll be stepping down after 11 games, and I want Town to get that first win of the season for him, more than anyone else.

Fergie set the benchmark for comments like this, Yes it was out of order, totally, and he regretted it and apologised to the players. But you can't say that any other top class manager is different? Benitez, Wenger, Mourinho to name a few, have the arrogance to say these things as well, because they are great managers.....they manage clubs AND players, and know how to get the best out of them by making remarks in the dressing room etc.
Personally, you hate him because you are a Chelsea fan :p

Fergie, "We're the luckiest team in the world. We were a disgrace of a performance. Miller and McLeish won the cup for Aberdeen. Miller and McLeish played Rangers themselves. They were a disgrace of a performance. And I'm not caring, winning cups doesn't matter. Our standards have been set long ago and we're not going to accept that from any Aberdeen team. No way should we take any glory from that".
