What I loved about it is that you actually care for the characters and see them overcome real life depression issues that most people have. The fear of not being loved or getting close and losing someone. Hell, even acting the best so that your noticed. Too me, this had a great visual on art, the human nature and story too. Sadly we dont have that kind of Anime now a day's anymore...

Have you read any interpretations or participated in any discussion. Maybe that will clear things up. There IS meaning for the series found in the movie.

@TheCharacterActor rei wasn't bad, nobody was "bad" in this series, maybe just shinji when he was being a selfish whiny sob. "rei" presented him with a chance to stop instrumentality and he chose to stop it. nobody was "bad"...

@Mytholgylove The dude straight-up insulted people for not liking the way the series ended. That is a thing that happened. In addition to that, the ending of the series failed to answer major questions, provided no context for what was happening, and was inconsistent with the rest of the series. The movie is more consistent with the series' direction. I'll give it that. However, I still find it a complete mess in terms of resolving anything.

I think you don't quite understand the angle of what the story is saying. I think this ending is amazing, don't put words in the directors mouth either, it's unbecoming of someone.
