UMass Lowell Computer Science doctoral candidate Yinjie Chen demonstrates "G-Searcher", a prototype in-door surveillance robot that he helped to design with Asst. Prof. Xinwen Fu at the UMass Lowell Center for Cyber Forensics to help policing efforts in locating hackers and other bad guys including potential terrorists hiding in a building. Using technology that is ahead of the state-of-the-art, G-Searcher uses a steerable beam directional antenna to scan a destination that is pre-specified based on the signal strength transmitting from the target. The robot can be operated and preprogrammed remotely. The project is funded through a research grant awarded to Dr. Fu from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Dr. Fu was on hand for this demonstration to explain some of the technology used to run the robot.
