The definitive version of Hedy West's "500 Miles" has to be the 1961 recording by The Journeymen (Scott Mckenzie, John Philips, Dick Weissman). McKenzie's tenor vocal combined with Philips' and Weissman's matchless vocal and instrumental accompaniment is nothing less than perfection. The spurious introductory "Hey, we were working on '500 Miles' at one point" comment at the beginning of the video consisted of looking at the title in a songbook. Jeff''s and my only ad hoc take on this classic folk ballad admittably pales in comparison with The Journeymen's, but the temptation to have a go at it was compelling. Geez, if only The Journeymen had remained intact...
Perfect in every way on one of my favorite songs ... Keep em coming my friend

Fantastic version of this great old song guys. I am envious. I have been wanting to record this song for a while but I don't play an instrument and I can't find a decent backing track.

Hi John,
I have to admit, and agree with others that this is one of your best renditions yet!!! It's not just because of my love for trains either! ;o) I say this with all honesty that your blending of voices, and your backup playing is superb!!! Excellent rendition my friend well deserving of 5*****+
Best Regards Always,
