The funeral of homeless poet Alan Smith at Canford Crematorium, Bristol on 12th January 2010. For the last three years of his life, Alan lived at the homeless hostel on Jamaica Street, Stokes Croft.. He was well know for his gentle manner and busking poetry.
He used to walk me home when I left the pub too late and didn't like walking alone in the dark.

I never knew his real name 'til now; I only found out a few hours ago that he died.
It goes without saying that it's a great shame, especially considering the circumstances around his death.
He was a great guy who wouldn't have done anyone any harm; he'll be missed by more people than I think he'd ever have himself realised.
I often thought of him and wondered when I'd see him again; now I know I won't.
I'm lucky to be on of those who did meet him, if only a couple of times.
R.I.P. Bear.

I ran into him a few times over the years. Down Stokes Croft and King Street. Friendly guy. Thank you for making and sharing this video.
He was the only poet who words I didn't think were irrelevant and tedious. I don't know whether that says more about me.
RIP Bear. Not Forgotten.
